Pantone’s Color of the Year and Why We Love It

In case you missed it: Pantone chose its 2019 color of the year recently. And, in case you aren’t familiar with how much this impacts design in 2019, let’s do a brief overview.

From visme.co: “The Pantone Color Institute studies color trends throughout the year in order to decide on the next Pantone Color of the Year. They take into consideration all aspects of society: fashion, marketing, social media and even politics. The hue chosen as Color of the Year has become increasingly influential in the vast world of design and brand marketing.”

So, the color of the year is chosen carefully by the Pantone Color Institute with multiple factors in mind. It’s important for the design world, and you’ll be seeing a lot more of the 2019 Pantone Color of the Year in the coming months.

2019 Pantone Color of the Year: Living Coral (16-1546)

From Pantone: “Vibrant, yet mellow PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.”

It is warm, it does provide comfort, and overall, we love it. The funny thing is, Staging Dallas was using this “Living Coral” throughout all of 2018. I guess you can say that we’re ahead of our time!

As popular as it is to use neutral colors (think: Fixer Upper-style black, white, beige and cream), it is nice to have that pop of color in living space to really liven it up. And in this case, a color that “embraces us with warmth.”

So maybe you don’t think Living Coral will have a huge impact in your life. Remember the scene in The Devil Wears Prada?

Meryl Streep: “Oh, ok. I see, you think this has nothing to do with you… However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and so it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you’re wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room. From a pile of “stuff.””
