Put it in Neutral to Move Forward

In car terms, the title of this blog would make no sense at all. Luckily, we’re not talking about cars on this blog, so it will make complete sense when I tell you we’re actually talking paint colors today!

Anyone who has ever shopped the paint section of your local hardware store knows it can be extremely overwhelming. On the same plane, anyone who has ever painted the interior of your home also knows what a huge difference it can make! As a Dallas home staging professional, I can attest to the fact that paint can make or break a sale. Painting your home a tasteful neutral will not only make my job easier when home staging, but help you sell your home more quickly.

Before we delve into my top favorite neutral paint colors, we should talk about how to make sure you’re choosing the right type of neutral.

See the example below (photo taken from the MLS) – it seems to be a very nice house, but something just feels… off.

Can you pin point what it is? This room has a lot of warm elements to it – the fireplace, the ceilings, the wood floors. However, the paint color is in the cool-color family and it’s not as aesthetically pleasing as it could be which was turning potential homebuyers away.

Here is a good example of a home staged by Staging Dallas that has warm elements as well - the crown molding and the entertainment center – but the wall color has a hint of warmth to it, which makes all the difference.

Notice how the wall color fits the area better?

Now that you know a little more about what type of netural you need to go with, next you’ll just have to make that final call. My go-to neutral paint colors are:

Sherwin Williams Light French Grey (0055)

Sherwin Williams High Reflective White (7757)

Other Sherwin William favorites:

Agreeable Grey 7029

Perfect Greige 6073

Dover White 6385

Grey Screen 7071

Alabaster 7008

Accessible Beige 7036

Authentic White 7035
