2017 Design Trends and What it Means for Sellers

Spend a few minutes scanning Pinterest, Houzz, or HGTV.com, and you get a sense of what is trending for interiors in 2017. Some the top design trends home sellers should pay attention to when preparing their home to hit the market. So, what is big in 2017?

Bright Jewel Tones: Think Pantone's color of the year, "Greenery", mixed with sapphire, ruby, and gold. These colors are best used as accents, like pillows, artwork and accessories

Mixed Metallics: copper, bronze, and brushed brass mix well. Use them on fixtures, hardware, and accessories

Mixed Texture: cozy, nubby throws, wicker and rattan accent pieces, cork walls

Quirky light fixtures: Having an interesting "Statement" light in the dining room or mater bath makes your home memorable

Navy and white kitchens: Gone are the all-white kitchens. Navy blue islands, and Navy and white patterned tile back splashes are trending for 2017

Built in Bar: Homeowners want to entertain, and enjoy the convenience and style of a built in bar

Acrylic: Ghost chairs, acrylic picture frames add interest without detracting from the space

Bathroom vanities made from repurposed furniture: Think outside the box, and find a unique piece that fits the space

So, you are selling your home. How do you decide which of these trends to incorporate to make your home more appealing than the one down the street? Choose one or two, and use sparingly. You want your home to look current and on trend, but not "trendy". Keep wall color neutral, and mix in some of the bright jewel tones. If you are doing some remodeling, consider selecting a patterned tile backsplash that differentiates your kitchen from all the hundreds with white subway tile. Or take a safer route, and just upgrade the light fixtures to something fun and memorable. You don't want to do anything too taste specific, but you do want to give your home something that sets it apart from all the rest. When in doubt, call in a professional home stager for advise. We happily consult with homeowners regarding upgrades selections.
